I love marimba duets as much as any other player, but I often find myself getting frustrated that it can be so hard to find good music that you can play without needing to track down two massive 5 octave instruments. Ignoring the obvious financial barrier this creates, for many people it would be impossible to even imagine fitting two 5 octave marimbas in the home to play them. So, I decided to create a collection of music to be played by to people sharing one 4.3 octave marimba, without requiring either player to hold more than 2 mallets. It includes four arrangements of classical pieces, as well as three original compositions. I would consider the pieces to be between beginner and intermediate difficulty. They should present an achievable challenge for newer players, and an enjoyable exercise for more intermediate players. They can even be a sight-reading exercise for experienced players, they have their share of tricks and turns. Listen to some of the music here! |
