BiographyCameron Denby is a Métis percussionist based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. After completing a Bachelor's degree in percussion performance from the Desautels Faculty of Music, Cameron studied the marimba with Jack Van Geem at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, completing a Professional Studies Diploma in marimba performance.
Since returning to Winnipeg, Cameron has been working independently to create collaborative performances with artists in his community. In 2019, Cameron created the Fresh Blood Project, an ongoing initiative to support collaborations between emerging composers and percussionists. As of the fifth showcase concert, the Fresh Blood Project has commissioned 20 new pieces of percussion music from 10 emerging composers, being performed by 13 local performers. The project has received support from the Manitoba Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, Groundswell Inc., and Michael Nesbitt. Cameron is becoming a familiar face around Winnipeg's vibrant music community, performing with a variety of artists and ensembles. As a percussionist, he can be seen performing with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Little Opera Company, and many choirs around Winnipeg. As a drummer, Cameron can be seen playing with with Viento South, KWIAT, Brandi Vezina, and freelancing with all kinds of artists around the city. Cameron can also sometimes be seen playing jazz vibraphone, sometimes at the Thomas Hinds Sampling Room. A passionate music educator, Cameron teaches at the Winnipeg Conservatory of Music, offering lessons on drums, marimba/vibraphone, and mandolin. Cameron is proudly sponsored by Marimba One™. |
