April 11, 2023
7:30pm First Presbyterian Church 61Picardy Pl, Winnipeg, MB The plucky little KIR series is returning for a lovely evening of music for marimba, vibraphone, and piano. The music will be performed by Caroline Bucher, Cameron Denby, Maggie Koreen, and Kiara Nathaniel. There will be solos, duets, trios, and even quartets if we're lucky. The program will include J. S. Bach's Violin Partita No. 3 in E Major, two concerti by Antonio Vivaldi, and the recital's namesake, two Pastime Rags by Artie Matthews. We are also excited to be featuring the world premiere of a new work by Kiara Nathaniel. |
About the series
I started The Keyboards in Recital series in 2019 as a showcase of music for instruments with keyboards. The first two instances included music for marimba, piano, and organ in various combinations. After many delays relating to the pandemic, the third concert was moved online, broadcast from the upper hall of the Crescent Arts Centre at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. It featured a program of exclusively marimba/vibraphone duets, performed with Caroline Bucher, and supported by Groundswell.
Keyboards in Recital 4 marked the series' return to in-person audiences, and was held at the Winnipeg Conservatory of Music. The theme of this program was marimba+piano, including music for solo marimba, shared marimba duet, and marimba/piano quartet. KIR4 was sponsored by Michael Nesbitt and Groundswell.
