The Fresh Blood Project is returning for the third showcase concert. On November 18, 2022, at 7:30pm, join us at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church (or online) for an evening of percussion music. Respond to the Facebook event here to stay up to date

THE PROGRAM
We are very excited to be performing the world premieres of three new pieces for percussion ensemble by composers Steph Davis, Kiara Nathaniel,  and Rebeka Schroeder. With assistance from the Manitoba Arts Council, (as a seperate part of the project) the composers were commissioned to write pieces for instruments that can fit in a backpack. In contract with earlier instalments of the Fresh Blood Project, which involved elaborate instrumentation, these pieces will be extremely accessible and portable.

Alongside the new works, we will also be offering the first performances of a collection of classical favourites adapted for percussion ensemble. There will be music by Scott Joplin. P. I. Tchaikovsky, Johann Strauss II, Ernesto Lecuona, and Antonio Vivaldi. These pieces will be performed by various amounts of players on marimba and vibraphone.

THE PROJECT
Fresh Blood Project 3 is a collaborative initiative between composers and percussionists, culminating in a concert of percussion music. The program will feature the premieres of 3 new percussion quartets, composed for tiny instruments. Also included will be a collection of classical pieces arranged for percussion ensemble.

The Fresh Blood Project began in 2019 with a showcase concert of new works for percussion. A group of amazing performers worked directly with a group of composers to prepare and premiere their music. After a successful Halloween concert of all new music, the Fresh Blood Project continued in the form of smaller developments, such as a new solo work premiered in a program of existing music. Our hope is to be able to continue the Fresh Blood Project as an ongoing initiative, with annual concerts in the fall. With your support, we can make that happen!

THE PEOPLE
Steph Davis, Kiara Nathaniel, and Rebeka Schroeder will have their music premiered at the concert. They will be working directly with Caroline Bucher, Cameron Denby, Brooke Boileau, Maggie Koreen and Abby Woytowich to prepare and perform the music.

Fresh Blood Project 3 is sponsored by Groundswell and Michael Nesbitt.
